Performing Arts Program

Arts For The Schools (AFTS) is thrilled to launch Sounding the Wild, an innovative, place-based arts education initiative designed to connect TK–2nd grade students with the natural world through music, storytelling, and eco-literacy. Rooted in the cultural diversity and ecological richness of the North Lake Tahoe–Truckee region, Sounding the Wild brings world-class musicians into Kings Beach, Truckee, and Tahoe Lake Elementary Schools for engaging assemblies aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), social-emotional learning (SEL), and Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) frameworks. Following each live performance, students receive Musica Sierra’s inventive Musical Field Journal, extending the experience into four weeks of classroom integration. This pilot year lays the groundwork for expansion across all grade levels in Tahoe Truckee Unified, empowering educators and students to embark on a sustained, creative journey of discovery.
