About us

Arts For The Schools was founded to increase the access and exposure to the arts for all in North Lake Tahoe and beyond.

We are a 501 c(3) non-profit that works to provide community and school-based art programs.

Founded in 1984 by Terry Yagura, the organization originally sought to address a decline in arts education by providing cultural and artistic programming for rural schools. Today Arts For The Schools serves dozens of communities in our service area, spanning two states, four counties and reaches 25 schools in California and Nevada.

What we do

Arts education is at the heart of what we do, and our primary mission. Due to our unique location, we serve students and schools in both states. We offer in-school visual arts classes, music classes, and host performances and workshops for regional schools.

VISUAL ARTS

Fine art curriculum is taught once per week in the classroom in grades TK/K-12 Students learn interdisciplinary standards-based, integrated curriculum in visual arts.

PERFORMING ARTS

Students in Pre-K-12 participate in interactive performances, workshops, master classes with artists in music, dance, theater and media arts to increase cultural awareness, emotional intelligence, and open discourse. 

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

arTRAIN program offers professional training in arts integration for art teachers and classroom teachers.  National trainers offer certification of PD hours for classroom teachers.
