Art in Public Places

Arts For the Schools is pleased to announce a new art program, "Art in Public Places", starting in November 2008 at the Truckee Town Hall.

"Student Art in Public Places" is a collaboration between The Town of Truckee and Arts For the Schools, with local students and professional artists. Students work with local Artists-in-Residence Nancy Lopez, Anke Hass, and Cathee van Rossem St. Clair to create the featured artwork which will be displayed throughout the year. Each artists will display work for 3 to 4 months, rotating throughout the year

According to former Arts For the Schools Executive Director, Melanie Kauffman, "Arts For the Schools is delighted to showcase student art and partner with the Town of Truckee which will make our public space enjoyable and enhance the quality of life in Truckee. Through this public art project, children will experience a sense of accomplishment when their creativity is shared with others and local government will demonstrate its support of art and culture in our community".

The opening show reception of "Student Art in Public Places" was held at the Town Hall building located at 10183 Truckee Airport Rd., Truckee, November 20th, 5- 6 pm. Featured art work from the Artist-in-Residence Program - Artist: Nancy Lopez. Created by students in Ms. Markheim's 3rd grade class at Glenshire Elementary School.

Anke Hass - Artist in Residence had the next showcase on May 20, at the Town Hall building. Artwork was created by students in 3rd grade at Truckee Elementary School.

Student egg paintings and poems will be showcased at the Town Hall starting June 19 - August 28, 2009, Artists in Residence, Cathee St. Clair along with the students from Truckee Elementary School will display their work.
