FREE Community Performance in Honor of Anniversary Season
Ronald K. Brown has emerged as a distinctive and strong choreographer in contemporary dance. His work celebrates the universal importance of the African American experience to world culture and history. This exceptional artist promotes forward thinking and open mindedness about life's possibilities. Music which is a universal language, will play a critical role in his approach which will also cross language and cultural barriers. Ronald K. Brown will also inspire the community to think, feel and listen to the instruction at the heart of the dance story.
Brooklyn-born Ronald K. Brown has been called "one of the few major choreographers to emerge in American modern dance in the last 10 years" by The New York Times. His work brings together modern dance, West African traditional dance, and urban street styles to form a powerful and unique vocabulary of movement.

clear and persuasive ideas and remarkable breadth of coloration
and called him pianistic firebrand in a review of his standingroom

On Ensemble |
On Ensemble
Friday, May 15, 7:00 p.m., North Tahoe High School
www.onensemble.org
Featuring four of the most promising young taiko artists the
On Ensemble combines seemingly disparate artistic elements into
a cohesive whole. Musical influences ranging from jazz to electronic
come together with the aural power of the taiko (Japanese drum)
and the visual aesthetic of Japanese dance. The result is an innovative
and unique performance that cannot be easily classified or forgotten.
"Their work combines 21st century experimental
sound with centuries-old Noh and Kabuki music... With the combination
of ancient drum rhythm and the scratching on a turntable, the
piece was a mix of old and new that took one from a primeval place
to a contemporary dance floor. The combination was a great mix,
technically precise, and the unique sound was delightful to hear."
Brenda Knepper, AllAboutJazz - October 19, 2005.
